OUR MINI BREAK TO EDINBURGH: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, PROPOSALS AND A SHIT LOAD OF WIND!

As you may of heard, we're engaged! I mentioned in a recent update post that it happened in Edinburgh during a little Christmas mini break and I thought it would be nice to share the trip with you ( almost 4 months later, because you know that's just what how I am!)

In the middle of December, we got in our trusty family Corsa at the crack of dawn and drove the 287 miles to Edinburgh. The 5 and half hour drive was completely worth saving £200 odd on flights/trains so armed with a full Spotify playlist, a plan of what services to stop at and very comfy clothes we made our way there. Our main aim of the weekend was to just spend some proper quality time together, child free and away from general life stresses like shitty nappies and being homeless. I booked the hotel around 7 months previous and would probably of done the same with our travel arrangements if the car wasn't so cost effective with fuel. We had also pre-booked our activities such as The Botanical Gardens & Edinburgh Castle.

We arrived in the afternoon and parked at a member of Tom's families houses to avoid the parking charges. We stayed at The Hub by Premier Inn in Edinburgh City Centre - A smaller, more compact and also cost effective version of a Premier Inn. The hotel was small but lovely, it had a bit of a modern quirk to it. The rooms were perfect for an intimate get away (if you excuse the fact you could hear your partner use the loo!) with funky controls for lighting/air conditioning and a fair amount of storage space for a weekends worth of clothes and suitcases!

After we had a freshen up and quick mooch around the area to scope out some breakfast for the next morning, we made our way to The Botanical Gardens for their Christmas light display.

The displays were hypnotising! Beautiful, interactive and also, very instagramable! We made our way around the displays, grabbing a hot dog from one of the stalls on the way round. We were browsing a very large Christmas tree with oversized baubles (pictured above) at the time when Tom wondered around the back and dropped down to one knee. I was a little speechless and also a little covered in tomato sauce from the hotdog. Although I didn't manage to get a shot of the actual deed being done, some lovely ladies did cordon off the start of a light tunnel (pictures below) so we could get a flawless, no people around, snap! Bless their souls!

After we walked around the garden in an excited tizzy we made our way back to the hotel, which was only a 20 minute walk away. On the way, we grabbed a takeaway to munch back at the hotel - Oh the romantics we are!

The next morning we headed out to do some of our Christmas shopping. The hotel itself was only a 5 minute from the Royal Mile. Before hitting the shops we popped in for some breakfast at a little cafe called Cafe Edinburgh which served a lovely full English - and a full Scottish! (although after trying to link them I'm not sure whether they are still open...) After we had spent a few hours traipsing up and down Princes Street Tom took me to Edinburgh Castle. And in full Scottish tradition, it chucked it down! As lovely and historic as the Castle is, it's probably a lot lovelier when it's not completely pissing it down. We then took a very soggy walk back to the hotel, taking a slight detour through the Christmas market to grab a Crepe.

The next morning, once the rain had calmed down, we nipped into the Christmas market where I grabbed a Christmas decoration and a hot chocolate before jumping on a bus and starting the long journey home.
Best. Trip. Ever.
