When we first had Theo, the first big place we went to was Mothercare. He was a teeny tiny baby who had virtually no clothes that fit so off we popped. We were that used to parking in normal spaces that we drove around that car park for 5 minutes looking for a space until I realised...we have a baby now, we can park in the parent and baby spaces. Our lives were changed forever. However with this luxury of actually being able to get your car seat out of your car without scuffing the neighbours bodywork, comes great anger when someone who has been a parent for the last decade or more pulls into the only space available. I know it's petty and I shouldn't care but it just bugs me, ok!
A few weeks ago we were at our local ASDA, prepping for the weekly shop. Now our branch has around 30 odd disabled spaces and about 10 parent and child spaces which are usually rammed - I can safely say that I have seen a shit load more children under the age of 5 in that shop than I have for example people in wheelchairs so I do find this slightly unfair! But I digress... So when I see a woman with a 10 year old parking in the one remaining space it boils my blood a little bit.
The amount of people, male and female, that I see parking in these spaces purely because they have a child or even in some cases because they have a car seat in the car astounds me! I completely understand that these spaces are helpful to others with younger children or those with special needs for example when crossing the road during peak times which can be dangerous but there really is no circumstance which warrants you parking in them otherwise! I'm sure your 13 year old daughter can manage across the road and I'm sure you can too!
Another example: We nipped to ALDI for some nappies last weekend - what is it with supermarkets!?! - parked up and the woman next to us gets out and trots off into the shop would you believe it, with no child! I know, I'm being extremely petty here but these spaces are pretty darn important when your getting a chock off car seat out of a 3 door car! I'll just send this chap in the white BMW to you when I end up denting his door due to your selfishness.
You wouldn't park in a disabled space if you do not have a blue badge - you'd even get fined for it! - so why do it with these spaces. Parking and shopping with a child is stressful enough, I don't need your shit on top of it. If you don't have a child under 5 with you, just park in a normal space, douche.
- Apologies for the passive aggressive post. Some people are just idiots!
