This horrible windy morning we decided to do something a little bit creative. I saw this idea on Kirsty's blog a few months ago - check out her post here! - where she accidentally stained her little boy yellow but did get some beautiful canvas worthy photo's. Basically the popular Pinterest practice consists of plonking your baby in a bath full of milk (formula powder, not the milk for your tea) with some flowers. Even after reading her traumatic experience I still wanted to give it a go so armed with her words of wisdom, we we're ready to do this and this, is how we got on!
So after a nice nap and a quick feed, I ran the bath, grabbed our unused tin of milk - from when he had reflux that he absolutely hated - and picked apart my lovely, but slightly wilting, bunch of flowers that I got for Easter. I chucked in a muslin to cover his modesty too as I'm pretty sure flowers were not going to stay in place with Theo kicking like a frog as he does.
I put around a quarter of a tin of the milk in the bath whilst the water was running - although this may of been a little too much. The milk, which is a little bit thicker than normal needed a lot of swashing about as it started to go a little lumpy and due to its thicker consistently turned the water more of a creamy colour more so than a slightly clear white...woops...but we powered on.
I then popped my little munchkin in and to my surprised after the first 5 minutes he started kicking away actually quite happily. I'm not sure he was quite happy about the milk going in his ears and trying keep the flowers from bunching up is a bit of a challenge when your trying to shoot with one hand and wave about a cuddly toy with the other, but other than that I think we did pretty well.
